Billboard Top 20 Songs Ranked, October 3rd 2020

 Top 20 Ranked

Exceptional Tier (6/5)

1. Before You Go - This is gonna be hard to get through. In 2005, my grandmother committed suicide and this song hits home. This song is Lewis Capaldi in his mom’s perspective after his aunt committed suicide. I can connect to this because after my grandmother committed suicide, let’s just say my mom was not in a good place. I break down into tears every time I hear this song and think of my mom and grandmother. One of the best songs of the entire year and my favorite song of the Fall season.

2. Blinding Lights - 2nd best 80s throwback of the year. I can’t say anything here that hasn’t already been said so I’ll spend that time trying to defend my #1.

Great Tier (5/5)

3. Come & Go - “Where do I even start. The song is about juice becoming a better person during a relationship and the lyrics handle that well. The chorus repeats the line “I don’t wanna ruin this one this type of love don’t come and go” which shows that he’s self-aware about the relationship and doesn’t want to mess it up. The lyrics show that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel which is a sentiment I can get behind. Juice also has solid vocals here and gives a good performance. Then there’s the thing that pushes this to the next level, the production. This is marshmello’s 2nd best performance as a producer behind be kind with halsey. The song is built off rock production (mainly guitars) that sounds fantastic, especially in the drop. The buildup from the beginning to the chorus makes it feel like a huge drop will come, and marshmello delivers. The guitars hit all at once and it sounds amazing. The 2nd verse comes and it goes back to calm but nice production and once again the chorus comes but in the 2nd drop marshmello makes the buildup longer with a nice guitar loop before the actual drop hits which still sounds good. This is my favorite song from legends never die and one of my favorite hits of the year.” - Me, August 14th 2020 (I probably could’ve made a better review but eh I’m already tired enough after this ranking.)

4. Circles - This song will never die huh. 🤔

5. Mood - That one melody is amazing and 24kgoldn and Iann Dior ride it so well. Roxanne > Mood > Blueberry Faygo btw.

6. Rockstar - DaBaby and Roddy are both great on this, the instrumental is great and the BLM remix is even better. Fuck a cop car indeed!

7. Watermelon Sugar - Eating pussy could not sound better! Oh yeah the song is fantastic also, those guitars are perfect. Man Harry really is the best 1d member.

8. What’s Poppin (Remix) - I don’t care about Tory this is damn great. Jack Harlow, DaBaby and Tory Lanez are all great on here. Wayne is fine but outshined by the others.

9. WAP - This song is fucking hilarious. Also W E T A S S P - W O R D.

Good Tier (4/5)

10. Go Crazy - Infectious and perfect hook #2, your turn! This surprised me, especially coming from Chris Brown and Thugger of all people. This song’s hook is pop perfection and it’s kept out of great by thugger’s verse not being as good as it could’ve been, I love Chris on here though.

11. Lemonade - Infectious and perfect hook #1 is up! This production and newcomer Don Toliver are both fantastic on here. Nav and Gunna give fine enough performances but this song is carried by the chorus.

12. Dynamite - It’s simply a good bubblegum pop song. Every member gives a good performance, the song is an earworm, the production is great, this is a perfect pop song. Now why don’t I like it more? Well, it comes down to BTS themself. I have never been a BTS fan and I feel a stronger vocalist could’ve done better here. Anyway, solid song, but go stream taio cruz.

13. Roses (Imanbek Remix) - Ride It and Secrets are better, this is fine enough tho. The pitch shifted vocals don’t get to me and man that bassline is great. Good enough summer song. 14. Savage Love - Now I have some things to say about this. The production on this is actually pretty good and I think Jason gives a good enough performance even if he basically tried to rob the beat. I completely get the hate for this but eh, I’m a fan of it. Fuck the BTS remix though.

14. Savage Love - Now I have some things to say about this. The production on this is actually pretty good and I think Jason gives a good enough performance even if he basically tried to rob the beat. I completely get the hate for this but eh, I’m a fan of it. Fuck the BTS remix though.

15. For The Night - Lil Baby > Pop Smoke > Dababy. Also that production is solid. I have nothing else.

16. Laugh Now Cry Later - Damn this production is fantastic. Drake and durk both deliver solid performances on here and its overall a solid song.

17. Popstar - This is overhated. Drake is lazy here yeah, but we’re used to that. Just focus on how damn catchy this is. Also the production is nice.

Decent Tier (3/5)

none

Meh Tier (2/5)

18. Holy - This sounds like a song to be in either a water or a phone commercial. This is just a snoozefest and I have nothing to say about it.

Bad Tier (1/5)

none

Shit Tier (0/5)

19. Mood Swings - God this song makes me uncomfortable. Pop smoke and lil tjay both sound like their about to rape this girl here with the creepy ass tone of the song, and the lyrics don’t help.

“Get off your knees, you don't gotta cry to me

I'm your best friend, baby, you don't gotta lie

I'll get you everything that you want and you need from Chanel to Celine

It's on you to decide

Valentino, yeah, I put you in the best

Start liftin' up your dress, start kissin' on your neck (oh no, no)

Start rubbin' on your butt, start massagin' your breasts

I ain't wanna give you a baby just yet, so I backed out and nutted on your breasts” GOD FUCKING DAMMIT I HATE THIS. NEXT

20. I Hope (Remix) - The original version of this worked quite well and was decent, but this version, oh. Charlie puth sounds absolutely terrible here and the context of the song is completely changed. This is supposed to be a revenge fantasy, not a duet and that’s why the original works well where this fails. Just an awful song and one of the worst songs of 2020.
